Two of the basic accounts in peachtree%26#039;s restaurant set up are 10000 for petty cash and 10100 for cash on hand. There is a separage account for regular checking. What are the differences in use between Petty Cash and Cash On Hand.
Also, which of those would you use for the till load in the cash register that is kept for making change?
Thanks!
Accounting - what is the difference in uses between %26quot;Petty Cash%26quot; and %26quot;Cash on Hand%26quot; ?credit check
I worked in a resort as Asst Front Desk Super. Petty cash was stored in the safe to be used for making change. The petty cash ALWAYS had to be the same amount from start of shift to the end of shift. The type of money it became at the end always changed. Cash on hand is used from separate account to pay a vendor or buy things needed. Or if a receipt was entered into the safe petty cash could be disbursed.

Petty cash is usually smaller amount. Cash on hand means in register, at bank, results of operations, etc.. Petty cash would be reserve for manager%26#039;s travel, misc. expenses.. Do you understand?|||Hi! I have an associates degree in accounting. I was taught that petty cash is the cash you would use for vendors or if you have to run to Staples for paperclips or something to that nature. Cash on hand would be used for making change, events (such as Employee Appreciation Day or Celebrating an employees birthday). The cash on hand would be used for the register. Hope that helps.
