When can you cash a savings bond?
loan
im not sure of the vaule but you can cash it at 18 if not. they changed it becuase thats what my brother did was cash it when hes 18|||The best thing to do for this problem is take a trip to
you local bank. Any of them will tell you the current value of
the bond. Most HH bonds, are purchased at a discount, 50%
of face value. The longer you hold it, it grows to face value.
Bonds are best let sit and forget. You can make 2 dollar a
week for 5 years and you would have the amount of your
bond. The mature time for the average bond is 7 to 8 years.
If your bond was bought in 1999, It may be matured already.|||Hi, Savings Bond Guru here, hope I can help you out!
You can cash a savings bond any time after it is 1 year old. If its less than 5 years old, there%26#039;s a 3-month penalty, but your 1999 bond is in the clear. Savings bonds purchased in 1999 earn interest for 30 years.
If its an EE bond it started out at half its face value and began earning interest at $50. Today, it would be worth aprox. $71.16.
If it is an I bond it started out at the full face value and begin earning interest at $100. Today, it would be worth aprox. $169.32.
Any local savings bank would cash the bond. But, be sure you%26#039;re getting the right value for the bond. Banks have made mistakes in the past calculating savings bonds because they%26#039;re not a bank product.
While the government provides a calculator, you need a better tool to tell you what the right Cash Value is for the bond and when the best time to cash it in is so you don%26#039;t lose any interest. You sould try our Bond Guru service (link below), it gives you a color-coded report and has a 7-day free trial.
Good Luck,
