Bank won't cash certificate of deposit?

I recently found a cd in my name given to me by my father (he is now deceased). The original bank has been sold twice since the issue. U.S. Bank is now the current bank. They won%26#039;t cash the cd--I%26#039;ve gone to the top. What recourse do I have? (Orginal bank was Continental Bank, then Bank One, now U.S. Bank in SLC, UT)

You need to contact FDIC and NCUA to see if the CD is even valid for a refunded banking establishment or if the funds were reassigned to another overseeing agency. Good Luck!

You might also check with your state%26#039;s unclaimed property department. Any money that is unclaimed must be turned over to the state to hold until the owner is located. You could probably find out online.|||Well this is clearly one specific branch you are talking about. What you need to find out is who purchased/merged with the original bank. Just cause a specific branch is there doesn%26#039;t mean it is related to the bank you started with.EX: We just merged with a bank here and half of the branches became one bank the other half another.
