No. Be honest with him up front, and then offer the book you bought as a replacement.

Nothing is as important as truth. Your teacher needs to know that you LOST the book..Then he will tell you if you should replace it, pay for it, or forget the whole thing.

DO NOT try and sneekily trade the book for another. Your integrity in this matter will mean a lot more to the teacher than your lies and deception. A book can get lost - I have lost other people%26#039;s books too.

COME clean, and fess up. This teacher must not see you in a deceiving situation.|||come clean pay for it|||Offer him the other copy and explain that you lost the other book. He will appreciate your honesty and willingness to replace the book.

Everyone makes mistakes, it is how you take responsibility for the mistakes you make that matter. It is great that you already got a different copy of the book. That is the right thing to do.|||%26#039;Fess up, and then tell him you%26#039;ll replace it. Rather than give him your copy, buy him a new one, and then inscribe it with a few words about how much you have valued him as a teacher. Don%26#039;t get sappy, or play the suck-up, but as a teacher myself, I can tell you that a few words of genuine appreciation will be remembered long after that lost book is forgotten.|||I had a student who lost a book out of my library. She told me and then offered to replace it. She brought me another one, and I really appreciated her honesty and the fact that she was willing to replace it.
